7DAYS

Yesterday, I took my wife and kids to Ferrari World for the day and it was packed with visitors of several nationalities.

Surprisingly, there were many non-Arab women dressed in very revealing clothes - not more than a long T-shirt and high heels. It seems that the more the country talks about respectful clothing, the more women want to show flesh in public.

I noticed GCC nationals with families, especially the conservative Saudis, were uncomfortable. The Saudi men felt annoyed with such scenes and the Saudi women looked shocked and confused with the very short clothes around them.

  1. letter

I even heard some Saudi families complaining to each other in Arabic about the revealing clothes. One of them said he doesn’t know where to “keep his eyes other than the ground” to avoid such scenes! Come on people, even if the country still has no dress code, it should feel abnormal to show that much of flesh in a place packed with conservative families.

I don’t think it is normal to go out wearing long transparent T-shirts and high heels. It’s a family fun place not a nightclub!

“Expateddie- This issue and letter is specific to what is happening in this country so i don't see the relevance of your comment. Two wrongs don't make a right, and if you wanted you could actually think about what i am actually saying and see this from the other angle. Like i said before, deliberately breaking the law and mocking the law and culture here is in fact betrayal and a form of treason against the UAE. Respect for the host nation should be a prerequisite for residing and visiting here. This is not something that we can joke or be lighthearted about. It is a serious issue because it is the core of the faith and culture of the local native people of UAE and I would request that everyone (expats) has a proper think about why they are here if they don't respect the local traditions, faith and culture and what they hope to achieve by flashing their nudity and undergarments in public places.”

“We need people like you, breen going around the world and monitoring Muslim people's behaviour outside of the region to make sure they're sticking to the Islamic rules.

I mean we wouldn't want to make things confusing now that some people break the rules and others don't know, would we”

“and i truly hope that the "liberal" ones will keep their chests and thighs and underwear to themselves this ramadan. Its awful to have to see people flashing their bodies at the malls and public places where families attend. This country is not one big beach so please wear some clothes that cover your bodies when youre out because the rest of us (the muslims who are trying to fast in ramadan at least) dont want to see your flesh and meat on display.”

“if these other comments are a true reflection of the non muslim expats sentiments about living in UAE and disrespecting the core of the culture of the UAE then I think its shameful for this country that it has allowed it to come to this. Expats who dont have any respect and mock this issue should not be living here and are in fact betraying this country and are mocking the locals faith and culture. The letter writer has every right to complain and they are following the law of this land. When in Rome as they say, do as the romans or you all know the other option and I think you should promptly take it if you are so disrespectful to muslim people and their practices that you feel the need to flash your nudity and underwear at us. It is truly disgusting that people have no self respect or consideration of others to wear such disgusting immodest clothes in public places.”

“Honestly? Get a job. So sick of this going on and on. When will we ever learn to just get on with life and learn to enjoy it instead of constantly moaning about everyone else being less worthy!!!”

“We dont need to think about Saudi's or whatever they think. Saudi's going out of their country and don't respect their own strict rules anymore as soon as they crossed the border to the UAE, so what?

And this nearly naked Ladies? Do you think they respect you and your culture, if they don't respect themselves????

    Its a neverending story.....”

Just disrespecting themselves. Leave them to it.”
